What's new at DPPI
- Issue 71 of DPPI Journal online (6 January 2011). Topics covered include advocacy, learning disabilities, mental health, MS, and organising family celebrations.
- On 14 October 2010, DPPI hosted a free one day conference on Empowering physically disabled parents during pregnancy and birth. Presentations were made by disabled mothers, disabled fathers, a midwife, women's health physiotherapist, obstetric anaesthetist and occupational therapist.Listen to the presentations from this conference on this site. - New guide published, Pregnancy, birth and early parenthood for physically disabled parents. (21 October 2010) Print and audio copies of this guide are available now. Full content of the guide will be made available on this website early in the new year. (11 December 2010)
- Issue 70 of DPPI Journal online (4 November 2010). Includes articles on talking to children about MS, working as a school governor,
and bonding with a baby. There are also examples of good practice with antenatal teachers working with deaf women, and the development of a joint working protocol between adult and children's services.
There is research on the effects of childbirth on MS, and a review of a resource supporting parents with learning disabilities and difficulties.
- Issue 69 of DPPI Journal online (2 September 2010). Includes articles on pregnancy as an amputee,
self advocacy for people with learning difficulties, supporting Deaf mothers, and doulas. There are also reviews of a breast
feeding scarf, a bedside cot, and of pubications on parenting aftera brain injury and medical conditions affecting pregnancy
and childbirth. A summary of research into parental involvement in their children's education is also included.
- Issue 68 of DPPI Journal online (26 April 2010). Includes articles on negotiating support and access to support, as well as communication, and joint (adult and children services) funding.
There are also reviews of a wide range of resources and research into the lived experiences of women with disabilities facing the challenges of pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood.

- Issue 67 of DPPI Journal online (7 January 2010). Includes articles on self directed
support, a wide range of resources, a tribute to Rosaleen Mansfield and the experiences of accessing schools by a
mother with MS.
- Issue 66 of DPPI Journal online (25 August 2009). Includes articles on specialist midwife roles in mental health and epilepsy, research on domestic abuse, reviews of resources for parents with learning disabilities, a Thalidomide survivor's story, and sudden unexpected disablement.
