How do parents’ disabilities affect their children’s lives? How do children feel about their parents’ disabilities? Over the years we have featured a number of articles and interviews by children and adults whose parents are disabled. Often these individuals feel that their lives are no different or only slightly different to those of their peers. Disabled parents often comment on the insight, tolerance and sensitivity towards others that children appear to gain through growing up in a family that values difference and diversity. Two of the articles in this journal explore some of these issues, one from the perspective of children living with their disabled mother, the second looking back at childhood. They make informative and thought-provoking reading. DPPI Information Service was proud to receive an award in recognition of the excellence of its innovative resources for sensory impaired parents and the professionals who support them.
