One of DPPI’s main aims is to promote the experience of disabled parents, recognising that their expertise is invaluable and inspirational to others. For all parents the challenges, problems and joys of parenthood ‘come with the job’. Often a disabled parent is faced with an extremely complex and difficult set of circumstances, which they have to work through, using strengths and qualities that perhaps even they did not realise they possessed.
The experiences shared in this issue are certainly inspirational. Among the many achievements described are coping with the trauma of separation and lone parenting; the practical and emotional challenges of parenting from a wheelchair; battling with local authorities for appropriate school transport; and working hard to promote communication skills.
Do you have expertise and/or experience to share with others? Do you know someone else who has? Wherever you are in the world, DPPI actively encourages your input and all suggestions, comments and articles are always welcomed.
