Tim with Penny and Rosalie. See Fatherhood and sudden disability

From the editor

In this journal we revisit the issue of home to school travel for the children of disabled parents. For many this is a difficult and worrying problem with no easy solution. We explore government guidance on who is responsible for its provision and funding in the UK.

Two fathers describe their personal experiences of disability, the effects on them as individuals and on their families.

The resources reviewed in this issue are varied and most are aimed at specific groups of people. These include professionals working with learning disabled parents; those working to improve maternity services for particular groups of women such as ethnic minority groups; young disabled people; and children whose parents have multiple sclerosis.

A research article describes the findings of a survey in Canada on motherhood and disability, and questions whether policies intended to assist people with disabilities actually hinder their chances of being a ‘good mother’.
