In this issue, disabled parents discuss the attitudes and strategies they use to make sure their relationships with their children are positive and strong. One mother explains how vital it is to be open and honest with her son about her MS and how she achieved this. Another talks about the importance of disabled parents being involved in their children's education. A third mother describes her fears of not being able to bond with her baby and how she overcame them.
Other articles focus on specific ways to support disabled parents: one reports on the difficulties faced by deaf women in accessing antenatal support and how antenatal teachers have adapted their classes. Another describes a protocol to facilitate joint working between children and adult social services departments to improve support for families. We review a publication that presents the positive experiences of parents with learning difficulties, and feature research on the effects of childbirth on MS. All these articles explore – and share – examples of good practice.
