DPPI Journal 72: Spring 2011
From the editor
What is life like for children with a disabled mother or father? On this spread we hear from three young people about their personal experiences of growing up in a family with a disabled parent. Also in this issue, disabled parents talk frankly about their relationships with their children and how their disability has affected the lives of their children.
In the ‘good practice’ section, a disabled mother assesses the accessibility of a new midwife-led birth centre and writes about her involvement with her local Maternity Services Liaison Committee.
Other topics focus on adapted childcare equipment to support a disabled parent to carry out parenting tasks, including a modified stroller, pram, cot, nappy changing table and baby bath. Disabled parents review a hands-free baby bottle holder that can be attached safely and securely, and a guide offering information to women with pelvic girdle pain.
We are pleased to share the expertise and experience of all these enterprising parents.
