In April 2008 DPPI embarked on a three-year initiative which aims to empower physically disabled parents and parents-to-be to make choices around pregnancy, birth and early baby care.
Building on our experience of producing award-winning pregnancy and birth guides for deaf and visually impaired parents, DPPI is now undertaking this new initiative (funded by the Department of Health) to produce equivalent information for physically disabled parents, in the form of two guides:
The guides are intended for disabled parents and parents-to-be and professionals working with them. They will be produced with input from disabled parents, health professionals and relevant voluntary sector organisations.
Empowering Parents launched at a consultative meeting of disabled parents, health professionals and voluntary sector representatives.
For further information, or you are interested in getting involved with this initiative and the development of the new guides, please contact DPPI.
